Glogowski/Hoesch

Matter of Facts

What holds community(s) together? For their new music theatre piece, the two theatre makers Gregor Glogowski and Benjamin Hoesch set out in search of hard-hitting answers in a percussion studio. Beyond the usual discourse and ideologies surrounding community, they accompany the two virtuoso specialists Yuka Ohta and Yu-Ling Chiu in their daily research on rhythm. How does one share a pulse? What does it mean to groove together? And what can acoustically connect people beyond four-four common time?

The Labor Arena, designed in collaboration with composer Diego Ramos Rodríguez, invites the audience to gather around an oversize sound object constructed out of two marimbas, a xylophone and a vibraphone with 172 keys and a range of 5 octaves. Rhythm as a common ritual and choreography is the main focus of the evening, opening up a force field of light and concrete sound. The stage becomes a divided place where everyone can re-examine their longing for synchronicity.
